From David Wormald, Legal Aid of NC Pro Bono Team Leader:
We are asking for your help and support in responding to the needs of clients post disaster. We need volunteers willing to take advice/brief services cases on very short notice. Later on, we anticipate needing the support of volunteers to take on more extended service cases.
LANC is now coordinating with the North Carolina Bar Association on these efforts. If you are able to help, please let us know through this link:
Common issues include
Recovering Personal Property
Replacing Lost Documents
Replacing Lost SNAP benefits
Loss of Employment
Change of Address
Other disaster related issues
FEMA remains the primary source of post disaster relief benefits. Our clients will need assistance with applying for these benefits and appealing. Please take a moment to review the attached training materials on FEMA. They include information on assisting clients with completing an application for FEMA benefits and requesting an appeal if the benefits are denied. The links to a recording of these trainings have been included below for your convenience.
