<title>A Tourist in a Foreign Land</title>

At the risk of putting myself in the doghouse by very publicly noting this…my wife recently celebrated her 40th birthday.  Knowing the milestone this birthday represented, I spent the past few years planning a big trip for us to ring in the new decade; and in March, we had the good fortune to spend a week in Paris.  Yes, we had an amazing time.  No, we did not participate in the protests that so conveniently overlapped with our visit.  (Though I must credit the French for the poetic nature of their graffiti – one such marker read “L’ombre de la guillotine arrive,” which roughly translates to “the shadow of the guillotine is coming.”  Ahh, Paris.)
In the weeks leading up to our trip, I spent some time researching French culture and Paris social customs, as well as attempting to learn a bit of the French language (emphasis on the word “attempt”).  At night I watched videos created by other tourists to Paris as they advised on things ranging from the ]]></description>
