we’re organized: We are organized by
subcommittee. The subcommittees make
plans and recommendations for the full committee to discuss and adopt.
Education Outreach Subcommittee: The Rule of
Law High School Conference is the signature program of this subcommittee. This
conference brings together high school students to discuss various aspects and
applications of the Rule of Law with lawyers, judges, law professors and
district attorneys, in interactive ways. The committee will also explore
developing The People's Law School geared towards educating adults in Wake
County on various, practical aspects of the law.
Community Service Subcommittee: This
subcommittee oversees the initiation and implementation of several signature
programs as well as developing new opportunities for Wake County attorneys to
come together for the good of the community. Events such as yard clean up day
at the Salvation Army, Race for the Cure, food drives for the Food Bank and
Lunch with a Lawyer involve many Wake County attorneys and their families. We'll be scheduling quarterly community service events.
Communications Subcommittee: This subcommittee
oversees our messaging and communications with the WCBA and the community at
large. We are working to improve and expand our webpage. This year, we'll add
a Public Service/Pro Bono Service Award to be given later this year.
Pro Bono Subcommittee: The hallmark of this
subcommittee is to make connections for Wake County lawyers, providing them
with pro bono opportunities to enable them to meet their Rule 6.1 aspirational
goals. We are working closely with Campbell Law School to make the Campbell
Connection with our lawyers and their students to help with pro bono matters.
We also work with Legal Aid of North Carolina and contribute to North Carolina
Bar Association programs 4ALL Service Day and Call 4ALL.
